Bangladesh
After gaining independence from Pakistan, a new country was born named Bangladesh. Bangladesh gained independence on December 16, 1971. Bengali people struggled to establish their identity and nation. The Language Movement of in 1952 sparked the start of a fight for independence. The Language movement was the first step to gain independence. Acknowledging their own language was a key component for a country. Government is also another key component for a country. The elections held on December 7, 1970 clearly showed that West Pakistan did not want East Pakistan involved in politics, when the military rules of Pakistan refused to allow the Awami League (East Pakistan's political party) to form a government. After the election, a struggle in politics became a major part of the nine month war, which started on March 26, 1971. During the nine month war, millions of Bengalis were killed by the Pakistani Army. The Pakistani army finally surrendered on December 16, 1971, which became the day Bangladesh gained independence. Throughout the years Bangladesh has grown as a country.

English Translation:
"My Bengal of gold, I love you Forever your skies, your air set my heart in tune as if it were a flute, In Spring, Oh mother mine, the fragrance from your mango-groves makes me wild with joy- Ah, what a thrill! In Autumn, Oh mother mine, in the full-blossomed paddy fields, I have seen spread all over - sweet smiles! Ah, what a beauty, what shades, what an affection and what a tenderness! What a quilt have you spread at the feet of banyan trees and along the banks of rivers! Oh mother mine, words from your lips are like Nectar to my ears! Ah, what a thrill! If sadness, Oh mother mine, casts a gloom on your face, my eyes are filled with tears!" (VocalNationalAnthems) |
"It seems to be impossible to hold a credible election without reforming the electoral system."
